The yellow circle represents a 1,000 ft. radius around the Spotted Owl nest.
The reddish patches were recently clear-cut.
Darker areas are patches of larger trees.
Yellow polygons: areas to be logged under this plan.
Red line: Ryan Creek (West)- Freshwater Creek (East) Watershed boundary and Green Diamond border with Humboldt Redwood Company land.
The Department of Forestry has approved yet another Green Diamond proposal to clear-cut large second growth Redwoods in the McKay Tract. This time the trees are around 60-75 years old. There are now 90 acres of clear-cuts waiting to happen in this watershed.
Once again, the company will level nearly all of what remains of a Spotted Owl nesting grove. It would be illegal to clear-cut this nesting area accept for a special deal that Green Diamond has with the federal Fish and Wildlife agency allowing them to “take” (harm or kill) Spotted Owls. Not suprisingly, the owls continue to disappear on Green Diamond land.
